When selecting crystals follow your instincts...allow yourself to be drawn to the energy. It may not be the most beautiful crystal or the biggest. Following your Divine guidance will never steer you wrong. Receiving crystals as a gift is a powerful sign from the Universe that this energy has come to you for a purpose.
When you obtain a new crystal it is important to clear it, activate it, charge it and if you like, program it.
Clearing Crystals There are many methods used to clear crystals. Some of the most common ways are provided below under How to Clear Crystals.
Charging Crystals Once the crystal is cleared, charge it by placing it in sun light. The crystal has been growing in the earth's nuturing yin energy and now needs thesun's yang energy- the full spectrum of light from the sun to become fully energized. The lenght of time required depends on each individual crystal. Placing the crystal in the sun's rays one to four hours a week will keep it energized.
Activating: Activating a crystal is making a spiritual connection between it and the person who will be using it. Carry it in your pocket...place it under your pillow while you sleep or keep it on the nightstand next to your bed.
Programing Crystals: Crystal lore states that crystals contain their own code similar to our genteic code. Their code carries their healing purpose, for instance grounding or creating an energy grid. These codes can not be cleared or removed. Crysatsl have the ability to be programed with additional purposes in addition to thier core code. After a crystal has been cleared and charged simply hold the crystal in the palm of your hand and hold the intention you wish to program into the crystal and breathe that intention into the cryatal. The prana - life force which is carried in our breath energetically carries the intention into the crystal which then resonates with that intention.
How to Clear Crystals: Over time, most crystals and gemstones pick up negative or unwanted energies. Energies in the environment are absorbed by the crystals like sponges or passed when someone touches the crystal. A few don't absorb energies and therefore never need clearing -they are citrine, kyanite, azeztulite, and Super Seven.
Stones, Crystals and gemstones that are used for healing purposes should be cleared and cleansed of negative energy before and after any healing work. Cleared stones also radiate a beautiful sparkling attitude...you can feel it!
There are several ways that are used to clear and cleanse crystals and stones. I offer these varied methods, some are more ritualized and take longer, others are quick and easy. The time needed for clearing is individual to the crystal's needs and the methods you utilize.The key is to try different ones, trust your intuition and then use whichever you and your crystals like best.
Breath: Place the crystal in the palm of your hand with your fingers pointing away from you. Gently and slowly blow twice onto the crystal with the intention to clear away any negative or unwanted energy from the crystal.
Salt Water: I hear a lot about using a solution of sea salt and water to cleanse crystals, however, this is not my method of choice, and I suggest that if you choose to try it, do so with caution. Know your cyrstals and if they will be damaged from being too porus or soft. In my early days of experimenting I have broken crystals using salt water solutions. Crystal and stones set in sterling silver should not be cleared in this manner as the silver will corrode.
Earth Burial: This is my go to way to deeply cleanse and heal negative energies. Crystals love to be returned to the earth. Find a place, a flower pot, in your garden or yard, important note: mark where you have buried them so you remember where they are. Leave them in for a few days or as I like to- following a cycle of the moon- removing them to bask in the light of the full moon.
Moonlight: Placing crystals outside or on window sills where they can draw in the energies of the moon is a gentle yet powerful way to cleanse, heal and rejuvinate them. The intention can be casual by placing them at any given night to receive the moon beams. The intention can be specific by selecting the season, position of the moon's cycle for the qualities you wish to imbue the crystal with. Independant of the depth of intention, the Moon's energies are cleansing and nuturing.
Smudging: One of the quickest methods available. Smudging is an ancient way to clear unwanted energy . To smudge pass the crystal several times through the smoke of a burning incense such as Nag Champa or use cedar, sage or sweetgrass.
Tap Water - Crystals can also run under cool tap water. As with salt water, be sure your crystals are not porus.
Reiki: A crystal is a living being. Channeling the universal life force to the crystal will cleanse and heal. Negative or energies you want removed will be removed from the stone.
Crystal Clearing: Selenite can clear unwanted energies from other crystal by placing the crystals on the selenite for a period of one to two days.
